Holwood Nursery is a family owned retail plant Nursery and this is our 21st year. We are located one mile from Somersham on the B1050 between the fenland towns of Somersham and Chatteris.
The majority of plants on sale have been grown on site. If not grown on site, then, the plants have been grown by other specialist nursery growers within the Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire area. Our prices are very competitive and huge savings can be made compared to larger garden centres. We put a lot of time into the care of our plants. We offer our customers help and advice if they require it.
We are offering a free local home delivery service on a minimum spend of £20.00. Just telephone or email us and leave your telephone number and we will contact you. Since lockdown we have made a lot of local deliveries and met many new people, thank you to those of you who came out to see us once we were able to open again back in May 2020. We have kept the one way system in place for now and hand sanitizer by the check out.
Something else we can do is take in your unwanted plant pots and trays, as long as they are in good condition, we can clean them and reuse. It has always been important to us to be considerate of our environment and natural resources, so it may take a bit longer but we use methods to reduce the amount of water used and would rather fleece a complete glasshouse crop than put heating on, except for exceptional cold weather circumstances.
We sell trees, shrubs, lots of roses, alpines and perennials plus all the other things you would expect like seeds, seed potatoes, a range of compost and glazed and terracotta pots, canes, garden sundries etc.
From mid March to the end of April we have basket plug plants for sale as well as larger plants already in pots. Again our prices are good and the plant quality is great. But if you pay us a visit you will find that out for yourself. There is a really big choice as we make hundreds of hanging baskets. Many customers bring in their old baskets to be refilled or order new hanging baskets and we grow these on under cover for collection from the end of May. If you have a wedding or other outdoor event coming up and want some pots planted up in your colour choice then that is definitely something we could help with.
We also grow a good choice of summer bedding plants and often something different to what you find everywhere else. Our tomato plants are healthy and chunky and we usually have about 20+ varieties.
You will find a quiet and friendly atmosphere here. We have chairs dotted around for our customers to have a sit down as they stroll about the nursery. We have on hand a wheelchair, adult walking frame, toilet and easy car parking. Help to put heavy items like compost in your car.
Also free range eggs (our own hens).

SPRING
- Bulbs in flower, primroses, polyanthus, violas, pansies, heathers, new season rose bushes, alpines and perennials , in season vegetable plants, strawberry and rhubarb plants, raspberry canes, gooseberry and currant bushes, fruit trees, herbs.
- Mothers Day flower baskets, also spring flowering planted pots and hanging baskets.
- Varieties of seed potatoes ,garlic, onion & shallot sets
- From mid March to the end of April plug plants of summer bedding plants and a huge choice of basket and patio plants as plug plant or ready in pots. Plug plant prices for bedding plants start as low as 10p each and basket plug plants at 65p each.
SPRING INTO SUMMER
- We offer a hanging basket refill service or buy a basket ready to go.
- A huge choice of summer bedding plants and baskets plants all grown on site. (We recommend these plants should not be planted outside until the end of May when the risk of frost has gone).
- Vegetable plants – tomato, cucumber, runner beans, courgettes, melon, marrow, sweetcorn, leeks, cauliflower, cabbage, etc.
AUTUMN INTO WINTER
- Bulbs, winter flowering pansies and violas, Primroses and polyanthus , heathers.
- Orders taken for bare root fruit trees and hedging.
- Winter filled hanging baskets also a basket refilling service.
